So, we are in the end of 2018 and you are very excited doing a research to decide what car you should buy.. To be honest the best feel is not the feeling of owning a new you car but the feeling of reading, searching for your new ride! which I call it the Selection Process!
The most important aspect in the selection process is your budget, how much you are willing to spend on your new car? or perhaps your new used car!?
Today we will talk about the Most important tips to consider before buying a new car:
1- How long does this particular car generation have been their in the market? How long is this car using this chassis (platform)? How old is the engine?
For example: The New 2019 Nissan Altima is just face left compared with the old model and this generation is just a refreshed generation compared with the old generation! That mean that the new 2019 Altima using the same old chassis that was introduced in 2006!! So basically its the same car with different look and different interior!!
In the other Hand the new 2019 Camry is using a newly developed chassis called TNGA, a more rigid more lightweight chassis means better feel and more comfortable ride.
So which one you will go for? off course the new Camry even though its still using the older model engine but the new platform is an important tip to consider! while the Altima still using an old platform with the old V6.
We come into conclusion, do not be impressed by a new car face left or new interior tech updates, make sure you get the latest chassis (platform)! You will ask me oh! but how i will know that information I am not a cars geek and if I will ask the sales man he wont be honest with me! Correct all you have to do is reading the last news about the car you consider to buy.
Let us talk more in the same subject, The oldest car in Lexus line up is the GS or GS-F. A luxury rear wheel drive car using the same old 3.5 V6 Toyota been using for years now and using the same platform from the last 8+ years! Yes I agree it refreshed in the last few years! But let say you like the car and yes the word Lexus mean Reliable in the Automotive Planet! Should you buy it? Still the answer is no! obviously the car will be changed soon, Lexus already started using the new V6 Twin Turbo engine in the LS which means it will be adopted in the new GS soon! Another thing if you read the news lately you will notice that Lexus / Toyota are developing a new TNGA Rear wheel drive platform and off course it will be used in the new GS generation.
Buying the current GS (as an example) is a big mistake, Specially for cars cost 45K+ USD because once the new model with a new platform or a new engine comes out the current generation prices will drop down.
Another example are Infiniti Line models which are still using old platforms such the Q50, and Q70… they are still using the old FM (front- midship) platform which was introduced before 12+ years.
2- Always look for a Bargain when buying a new car!
Yes, There is always a discount or special offer season specially by the end of the year when dealers want to empty their stock to make space for the new models!
Not a discount season? you still can get a bargain! yes, lets say you are going to buy a 2018 Toyota Rav4 which is the last RAV4 from the current generation and the next 2019 Rav4 will be a new generation with a different platform and off course the sales man will not share with you this piece on information. But let say you already did your homework and you knew that the new RAV4 is going to be a new completely different car.
In this situation you know that the dealer is dying to finish his stock from the current 2018 Rav4 and there is great chance that you get a good deal.. all you have to do is to negotiate.
Make sure to check more than one dealer, some dealers might offer better prices but less warranty and some dealers might offer high prices but include more on-road packages such as insurance windows tinting etc.
Some cars already getting an overall change for next year but you can still find the current/last year model available in stock for sale such as:
BMW 3 Series, Toyota Rav4, Camry and Avalon, Range Rover Evoque, Porsche careera 911, BMW x5, Ford F150, Mazda 3 and you can find more.
3- Which car fulfill your needs?
Yes, most of people buy the wrong car! An important tip should be considered by younger age in the middle east region. I live in Bahrain a small country with almost no desert no off roads! and you still see people driving Toyota Land cruisers, Nissan Patrols and Wranglers and cars that are made for off roads, some people justify buying those cars because they need a big interior to carry their families!! hmmmm!
Well, first let me explain something… these cars are made of Body on Frame platform which are specially made for towing and off road and this segment of cars are not that comfortable for normal roads driving or precise and will not give you a direct steering feel! Unless you buying 80K+ USD SUV to show your balls! then stay aside and dont continue reading.
You have a Family of 7 people, you live in a house in the middle of a desert or a forest, then you need a good 4×4 SUV such as Toyota Land cruiser.
But if your daily routine have no off-roading and let say you go camping or doing desert trips once or twice a year! And you need to carry your 7 family members then you can buy a Uni-Body SUV which is more comfortable, more direct, more connected to the driver, consuming less fuel, less priced and cost less to maintain.
A Uni Body SUVs use the same platforms of a normal road car but with some Off-roading capabilities and a higher height for more ground clearance.
This segment is the best selling segments right now and there is so many choices:
You got the The small SUV segment such as Mazda CX-3, Honda HR-V and Hyundai Kona.
The medium size SUV such as the Mazda CX-5, Honda CR-V and Hyundai Santafe.
The Large size SUV such Mazda CX-9, Honda Passport and Hyundai Palisade.
Another Example, a friend of mine which is a very slow driver, never raced or Tracked a car! Use his car strictly to go to work and back and guess what! He just got him self a Porsche Careera S 911! and am like why?! He’s like I always wanted a Porsche. Is it worth to drive a not practical, rough car with a low profile tires and a very rigid suspension (obviusly because it design for sport driving) everyday just for the sake of a brand? With Careera kind of money he can get him self a moving Sofa! such as LS500 or 7 Series or S-class! few months later he sold the Porsche and got him self a luxury car. end of story.
Sometimes we go blindly for the brand or the car design and its only a matter of time until we regret our purchase.
Another story of a Girl called Lisa, she just finished college and looking for a sweet hatch back! She went to Volks Wagon dealer looking for a Golf! and guess what! she though VW Golf GTI is the full option model of the Golf! She didnt realize that its the sportier version of the normal Golf until she took it for a test drive and noticed the harsh driving which she is not looking for.
4- How much will it cost you to maintain the car after buying it!?
Well this is an one of the important tips to consider before buying your new car, the BMW 320i price is almost same as Nissan Maxima Price! isnt it tempting buying a BMW? Just Imagine parking your BMW and walking out of it.. feel nice right? Allot of People can afford the 3 series but should they buy it? no! unless they can afford the the cost of Maintenance and servicing the car. Also keep of mind that BMW dont hold its value in the used cars market.
While in the other hand the Nissan Maxima after buy expenses cost mush less than the BMW, and hold it value much better in the used cars market.
But Jhonny will step up and say how dare you compare a BMW 3 series with Nissan Maxima and am like Yes i do! Wake up its 2019! Both cars compete well together and the Maxima will give you a much better driving feel compared to the BMW 320i, even the interior quality can be compared with the 3 series.
Always make sure to afford the after buy price of the car.
Stay Tuned! Am coming back to add more tips to consider before buying your new car!
