Yes, V12 engines living its latest days, car makers tend to develop turbo engines and electric motors. Yes you can get more power with a twin turbo v8 but you can get the punch and response of an NA v12. Only few cars in the market remained with a 12 Cylinders motors such Lamborghini Aventador and Ferrari 812 Superfast!
But what about the SUV segment? Did you hear about a 12 cylinders SUV other than Bentley Bentayga W12? There are! but they are all out of production and we going to list them today.
Lambo LM002 was the SUV of our dreams when we grew up, the only SUV made it to our walls. Yes a 12 cylinder engine with a 5.2 liter displacement producing 426 Hp and 369 lb-ft or Torque. The car sprint to 100 KM per hour in 7.7 seconds which was not that impressive even back then.
They say only 328 LM002 was built from 1986 to 1993.
Volkswagen Touareg W12
Touareg the first SUV for VW and it was introduced in 2002, in 2005 the Touareg which is named after a the Touareq people in the Arabian desert in Algeria and Lybia. They say the Touareq tribal saved VW rally team back then and that’s why they called the car Touareg.
Anyways the car introduced in 2005 with an a option of a W12 6 liter engine with 444 Hp AND 442 lb-ft of tourqe. VW made only 500 units. And yes we received a few in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. The car accelerate from 0 to 100KM/H in only 5.9 seconds.
BMW X5 V12 Le Mans
Yes, BMW X5 also got it share with the V12 engine back in 1999 ithe X5 received a 6 liter V12 engine producing 700 HP. The engine was in a BMW Le Mans-wining car and they planted it in X5. The 6 speed transmission developed specifically for the car by the M division. BMW only made one unit from this beast.
Mercedes G65 one of the heaviest SUVs out there with a 2850 KG! The boxy shape ugly SUV which is somehow a luxury Icon for some people… Received a twin turbo V12 in the G65 Trim, 621 HP and lb-ft tourqe helped this “moving building” to reach 100 KM/H in only 5.1 seconds. It was sold in a very limited numbers.
